The Union nightclub where you dance and be merry! The affectionately known Academy of Dreams is also being refurbished by the time you will arrive- Lovely!
Your one stop to everything Brunelian- here you will find info about the Union and read the Officers blogs, access copious amounts of valuable advice info (both academic and otherwise), engage with your Student Representatives, check the events calendar and get information about your favourite sports and societies.
The concourse is the main pedestrian walkway through the centre of campus- you will often find cake stalls, circus performers and the odd netball or football shoot out happening here. Also one of the key focal points of Union election week with all the candidates out and about!
As great as Freshers’ week is, lets not forget that you’re actually here to study for a degree (!) As the years progress you will spend a lot of time in library in the Bannerman centre with your nose in those lovely books expanding your knowledge.
Elections week is one of the most important weeks on the union calendar (after freshers’ week of course!) where YOU have the chance to get involved in the running of your union by voting in the student leadership for the forthcoming year.
On the Tuesday of Freshers’ week get up to the Indoor Athletics Centre where we will be hosting our huge Freshers fayre. In addition to seeing what Brunel clubs and societies have to offer, trade stalls will give away freebies, and further stalls will provide opportunities to expand your horizons outside academia. Your time at Brunel will be really influenced by your involvement- check out the lists on brunelstudents.com and see what takes your fancy.
For all you who love exercise or simply want to get fit, Brunel Sports Centre has the all important gym. They offer year- long membership or a pay per use service, as well as classes such as aerobics and yoga.
The building containing Locos Bar, the Hub bar, More food court, Prontos, the Academy, student union offices, student union reception, Costcutter, pharmacy, the campus store and HSBC bank… basically everything you need!
Isambard Kingdom Brunel was a British engineer who revolutionised modern engineering, most famous for the creation of the Great Western railway, steam ships and numerous important bridges and tunnels. Also a statue on campus where people like to take photos.
Within the John Crank building you will find both the Computer Centre and the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Services like the Computer Centre Workareas, IT Store and the Computing Support Team are all available within this building. Specific service information is available from the Computer Centre website.
Kingston Lane is the main entrance to Brunel University, also where the U4 bus stops from and to Uxbridge.
Locos is the union bar where you will find bargains on food and drink, pool tables and the good old juke box. Many social events will start and end in Locos, with screen sports too.
Money will be the topic of many a conversation in your time as a student- student loans are terrific but you need to learn how to budget or you may end up in a sticky situation! However we have great services at Brunel including the Job Shop (which can be found online) that can set you up with a part time job no problem, and the Advice and Representation Centre (ARC) who can help with any “sticky Financial situations” you may find yourself in.
