Our Union runs Loco’s Bar and The Venue here at Brunel University London - We run these venues as both a social environment for students to enjoy, including our Clubs & Societies, and also as a revenue stream to help fund our services and activities, such as your academic representation & student experience.

This year will be challenging but working in our licenced venues will be a highly rewarding opportunity. You will have the opportunities to serve food, pour drinks and become a trained Starbucks Barista. All whilst working as part of a team. We’ll continue to keep you informed about our plans this year to operate venues that are safe for our members, with enhanced cleaning and new processes.

We’re looking for passionate, flexible & hard-working staff who are looking to work in a customer focused environment. 


Key Dates

Application deadline – Sunday 21st August 12noon

Interviews – We will be shortlisting & arranging interviews on a weekly basis

Staff Induction and Training – 5th & 6th September

Start Date – 5th September

Freshers 2022 start date – 11th September


The rate of pay is per hour, and has two bands - each band has it’s own specific role and responsibilities and we can talk to you more about this during the recruitment process.

AG1 - £10 per hour
AG3 - £10.50 per hour


Shift Patterns

All team members are required to work a variety of daytime, evening, late nights and early morning shifts over the seven day week and must be available for weekends. However, our shift patterns are flexible and we’ll do all we reasonably can to support you during your studies and exams. 

All successful applicants are required to work the key Mega Global events during the year, along with attending mandatory and compulsory training. (A failure to complete mandatory training will result in your job offer being withdrawn). Please note that any job offer is on the condition that you pass all right to work checks.

Bar Staff and Venues Job Description and Person Spec

Responsible To: Duty Manager - Grade: AG1 - Hours of Work: Zero-hours (Expected to be available to work minimum 2-4 shifts per week)

Job Function: The main purpose of this job is to ensure the customer receives the highest quality of services. 

  • To serve all customers in a fast, professional and courteous manner.

  • To ensure the customer receives a high standard of customer service.

  • To maintain work areas and storage areas to a high standard of cleanliness, paying particular attention to Health and Safety guidelines.

  • To assist in the checking of members’ ID when necessary.

  • To ensure that all front of house areas are kept clean and clear of litter at all times and portray the Union in a professional manner.

  • To assist in maintaining stock levels and stock rotation behind bars and within storage areas, notifying your direct supervisor of any concerns.

  • To inform the Line Manager of any absence in line with procedure stated in the contract.

  • Bring to the attention of your manager any comments reported to you by the customers.

  • To be aware of and observe laws relating to licensing and have knowledge of the policies of the Union.

  • To ensure all purchases are recorded through the appropriate EPOS systems using the procedure shown.

  • To complete any such duties as agreed to be in keeping with the grade and general nature of the job.

  • To implement and maintain appropriate systems as required, liaising with other Union staff as necessary
