Why are you interested in becoming our next Student Trustee?
I am enthusiastic about improving the student experience and making sure that every voice at Brunel University is heard and respected, which is why I'm interested in running to be the next Student Trustee. My own time in college has brought home how crucial it is for student organizations to have strong leadership and representation. Being a Trustee, in my opinion, provides a special chance to influence laws and programs that have the potential to improve our neighbourhood.
Through my active participation in numerous student-led committees and projects, I have gained a profound understanding of the difficulties and goals faced by my peers. I wish to use this realization to support programs that advance academic success, inclusivity, and wellbeing.
My goal is to bridge the gap between students and the Union, ensuring that all perspectives are considered in decision-making processes. Moreover, I am committed to fostering a collaborative environment where students feel empowered to voice their concerns and contribute to solutions. I believe that transparency and accountability are crucial in building trust between the Union and the student body. By serving as a Trustee, I hope to not only represent the student perspective but also encourage greater student engagement in Union activities.
What, in your opinion are the three most important qualities of a good Student Trustee, and could you provide details on how you possess these qualities.
Effective communication, robust advocacy abilities, and a dedication to inclusivity are, in my opinion, the three most crucial characteristics of a successful Student Trustee.
An effective Student Trustee must be able to communicate thoughts and concerns to the Union's leadership as well as the student body. Because of my involvement in student organizations, where I frequently led conversations and solicited comments, I have great communication skills. I feel at ease interacting with a variety of groups and making sure that every voice is acknowledged.
A trustee need to be an ardent supporter of the needs and rights of students. I've exhibited this trait by actively taking part in initiatives to enhance on-campus mental health services.
Collaborating with fellow students, I collected data and presented our results to university officials, resulting in insightful conversations about improving support services. I now have the abilities to effectively advocate for change on behalf of my peers thanks to this experience.
Prioritizing inclusivity and making sure all students feel represented is essential for a successful Trustee. My commitment to advancing diversity and inclusivity is demonstrated by my participation in programs that assist underrepresented groups at Brunel. My goal is to establish environments where each student feels appreciated and accepted. Our student body has a variety of needs, and I think we can better meet those needs by creating an inclusive environment.
I'm determined to uphold these values in this position because they are crucial for a Student Trustee: advocacy, communication, and inclusivity.
What skills and experiences can you bring to this role?
My background in student organizations, where I oversaw events and took the lead on projects, has given me great organizational and leadership abilities. My experience in project management enables me to manage several tasks efficiently and produce results on schedule. I have also successfully advocated for better mental health services on campus, so I have advocacy experience as well. My capacity for communication with a variety of audiences also guarantees that the perspectives of all students are heard. With these abilities and background, I'm ready to be a valuable Student Trustee.
In what ways do you believe you can actively contribute to the discussions and decision-making processes during board meetings?
By bringing a student-centered perspective to board discussions, I can actively participate and make sure that my peers' voices are heard. I'll put a lot of effort into my preparation for meetings and use my research abilities to offer thoughtful analysis of important topics. My cooperative style promotes candid communication and creates a welcoming atmosphere for a range of viewpoints. Furthermore, I will promote data-driven decision-making and use survey responses from students to direct conversations. Through interacting with other Trustees and promoting openness, my goal is to lead productive discussions that result in decisions that have a significant impact on our student body.
