What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with University Leadership: Work closely with the Executive Board and Heads of Colleges and Departments to make sure academic issues are addressed and student voices are heard.
- Support Course and Department Reps: Coordinate rep activities, making sure student feedback sparks real change that benefits everyone.
- Enhance the Learning Environment: Drive improvements in both physical and online resources, distance learning, and skills development, ensuring students have the tools and resources to succeed.
- Student Lead on Academic Initiatives and Graduation: Take the lead on key academic programs like scholarships, the Academic Skills Service (ASK), the Professional Development Centre (PDC), and graduations.
- Represent Brunel Nationally: Work with other unions, NUS, and national bodies to make sure Brunel’s academic experience is continuously improved and meets the needs of our students.
- Advocate for Academic Excellence: Champion initiatives that push for better academic provisions for students.
- Handle Misconduct, Appeals, and Complaints: Take an active role in managing misconduct cases, appeals, and the Union’s complaints and disciplinary processes, ensuring fairness and accountability.
Governance Responsibilities
As Education President, you’ll also step into key governance roles and have a seat at the top tables.
- Union of Brunel Students Trustee: Sit on the Union’s Board of Trustees, helping guide its direction and ensure its success.
- University Council: You may be nominated to sit on the University Council, representing student needs and shaping university decisions.
Term of Office
The role spans 53 weeks, starting at the end of the academic year and including a one-week transition period to ensure a smooth handover.
Are You Eligible?
To run for this role, you must:
- Be a current Brunel University London student at the time of election.*
- Be a full member of the Union of Brunel Students.
- Meet the legal requirements to serve as a Trustee and Company Director under Charity and Company Law.
You can run in your final year and take up the position after graduating or do it as a placement year within your course (please note, you will need to check that this counts as an eligible placement for your course. Drop us a message for any advice on this).
