Position: Welfare and Inclusion President
Term: 7th July 2025 – 10th July 2026
Salary: £26,389 per year (inclusive of London weighting)

As Welfare & Inclusion President, you’ll be a champion of inclusivity—supporting LGBTQ+ students, advocating for gender equality, standing against racism, and ensuring accessibility for disabled students.

What You’ll Do
- Be the Voice for Student Welfare: Represent students and work with the Executive Board and Student Centre, tackling student wellbeing, living, and finance issues to ensure no one is left behind.
- Champion Access and Opportunity: Lead projects that break down barriers, creating equal opportunities for all students to thrive, particularly those from under-represented communities.
- Uphold Union Democracy and Transparency: Serve as the Lead Officer for Union Democracy, acting as the guardian of the Union’s constitution and byelaws. You’ll ensure robust governance and uphold democratic principles across the Union.
- Represent Brunel Nationwide: Collaborate with other unions, NUS, and national bodies to drive change in student living and finance, acting as an ally for all.
- Lead Meaningful Campaigns: Plan and deliver impactful campaigns to improve student welfare and wellbeing across campus.
- Shape Policy with Student Voices: Ensure student feedback shapes policies, putting their voices at the heart of decision-making.
Governance Responsibilities
As Welfare and Inclusion President, you’ll also step into key governance roles and have a seat at the top tables.
• Union of Brunel Students Trustee: Sit on the Union’s Board of Trustees, helping guide its direction and ensure its success.
• University Council: You may be nominated to sit on the University Council, representing student needs and shaping university decisions.
Term of Office
The role spans 53 weeks, starting at the end of the academic year, with a one-week transition period for a smooth handover.
Are You Eligible?
To run for this role, you must:
• Be a current Brunel University London student at the time of election.*
• Be a full member of the Union of Brunel Students.
• Meet the legal requirements to serve as a Trustee under Charity and Company Law.
*You can run in your final year and take up the position after graduating, or do it as a placement year within your course (please note, you will need to check that this counts as an eligible placement for your course, drop us a message for any advice on this).
