About Us

Brunel Jiu Jitsu is a friendly, open martial arts club that gives each individual member a chance to develop the skills they need, be it self-defence, fitness or performance under pressure.

Jiu Jitsu is a modern, highly applicable martial art adapted from traditional styles of jiu-jitsu developed in medieval Japan. We follow a syllabus of throws, joint locks and strikes tailored to one's skill level, and concentrate on teaching self-defence skills that can be used to counter real-life aggression. Our techniques use the aggressor's own energy to their disadvantage, so the sport is suitable for anyone of any age, size or fitness level.

We welcome members of all backgrounds and abilities and do not pressure anyone to attend belt gradings or competitions. Jitsu, as we teach it, is just as much about personal development and strength as it is about tangible achievements. This allows everyone to pursue their own goals - whether they be a black belt or simply feeling safe after a night out.

Our club prides itself on its beginner-friendly, encouraging environment, of which regular, fun social events are an important part. We also make trips to regional and national Jitsu events, where members get a chance to train and make friends with other clubs from around the country - or even bring back some medals.

We offer your first two sessions with no strings attached! (Taster Sessions) Come and play!

At the moment we are only able to accept students, staff and alumni as members. For more information please contact the committee at bruneljitsuclub@gmail.com.
