Democracy Committee is responsible for both reviewing the Unions democratic processes and scrutinising the work of the Elected Representatives of the Union. They meet at least once a term and reports to Student Assembly any findings or recommendations. They have the power to submit motions on censure, commendation and no confidence to Student Assembly.
Who is the democracy committee?
The committee is made up of 8 students elected from amongst the membership of Student Assembly, along with the Chair of Student Assembly.
The members of this Committee will be elected in the first policy-making Student Assembly of the year.
We don't take formal minutes in this meeting, although the questions from the Officer accountability session are submitted to Student Assembly. Outcomes of this meeting usually transpire as motions to Student Assembly asking them to approve changes to the democratic processes of the Union.
