Frequently Asked Questions
What do you do?
Every week, the Sci-Fi society meets up to watch a science fiction film (or part of a series). We also have plans to visit several conventions and festivals this year, starting with Sci-Fi London's Oktoberfest events.
How do I join?
Either look for us at the Fresher's Fayre event and fill out a form at our stand, or click the Join Us link on this page. Membership currently costs £5.
When do you meet?
We meet up every Tuesday at 6pm in LC061 (Lecture Centre, Ground Floor, Room 061), due to many people having lectures that finish late, we usually start the screening at 7pm, unless the film is longer than 2 hours, in which case we inform our members in advance. The screenings are usually scheduled to finish at 9pm, at which point many members head over to a nearby pub.
What sort of films do you watch?
Err... Sci-Fi? That's pretty much the only requirement we have for our screenings, so if you have a favourite film/series, suggest it to one of the exec; if there is enough demand we will screen it.
I've seen a bit of science fiction, but I'm not really a Sci-Fi fanatic, is your society right for me?
Don't worry if you're not a huge Sci-Fi fan, the society has a broad range of members, from those who just enjoy a good film, all the way to real SF geeks; we are just as much a forum for meeting other people with similar interests as we are a film society, so if you're still not sure, come along to one of our screenings; every Tuesday 6-9pm, LC061.
