The Union of Brunel Students is recruiting for casual student staff workers for our Reception. The Receptionist is our first contact for most of our enquiries and is essential in setting the tone for our members and visitors experiences. Working in our reception will give you experience of working in both an administration and retail role, as you will also be responsible for maintaining our retail environment and facilitating sales.
As a front facing team member you will have great interpersonal and customer service skills, be able to think on your feet and create a welcoming environment for our members. You will also be able to follow procedures and policies and be meticulous with cash handling and record keeping.

Job Description: Union Reception Student Staff
Responsible to: Student Activities Manager
Salary: AG1, (£11 per hour)
Hours of Work: 0.00 - Will usually be rota’d on for one to two 2.5 hour shifts a week
Please be aware that if you plan to work other jobs in the Union, that you can work a maxiumum of 20 hours per week across all Union departments.
JOB FUNCTION
As a receptionist at the Union of Brunel Students you will be the first point of contact for students and staff that come into our reception space. You will provide friendly, high level service, looking to answer queries at the desk, but referring on to a staff member if necessary.
You will ensure that the retail shop area is kept tidy and fully stocked, taking payment and assisting customers as required.
Most importantly, you will represent the Union in a positive, enthusisastic manner, promoting our services and encouraging engagement.
DUTIES
MAIN DUTIES:
1: Reception
-
Undertake a set number of reception shifts a week, acting as the first point of contact for students, University staff and external visitors to the Students’ Union and referring people appropriately, giving directions, taking messages and answering queries as necessary.

Serve customers showing high standards of customer care at all times, providing a helpful and friendly service.

Answer the reception telephone, and responding to voicemails.

Deal with and reply to all reception email queries, answering questions as the first point of contact wherever possible, but forwarding on when necessary.

Handle payment (cash or card) for memberships, event tickets, clothing and other Union shop products as necessary. Ensure cashing up is recorded accurately if you are on a closure shift, and that the finance department have all the required information.

Ensure a high standards of product presentation for our branded clothing and other Union shop products.

Distribute post and accept and record deliveries.

Provide support and assistance to clubs and society committee members, following guidance from the Student Activities staff.
2: General
-
Ensure a high and consistent standard of customer care within all areas of responsibility.

To work within the Union procedures and codes of practice.

To be aware of, and abide by, the confidentiality policy of the Union.

Ensure that any conflict of interest situations are dealt with appropriately and reported to the Student Activities Manager.

To be aware of the necessary Health and Safety policies, legislation and best practice, as practiced by the Union.

To ensure that equal opportunities and diversity policies are followed through in all aspects of work.

To undertake such other duties as are agreed to being in keeping with the general nature of the job and its grade.
