Brunel University is excited to announce Giving Day 2024, 23rd-24th October —a live 36-hour fundraising event filled with challenges, activities, and opportunities to make a real difference for students in need.
We’re calling on all Brunel students, alumni, staff, and supporters to come together and raise funds for scholarships, awards, and the Union's Hardship Fund. This fund is vital in supporting students facing unexpected financial challenges, especially given the rising cost of living.
Why is the Hardship Fund so Important?
The need for financial support has surged in recent years. A recent survey revealed:
- The average student’s monthly living costs have increased by 17% since 2022.
- 18% of students have used a food bank in the last academic year.
- 22% often skip meals to save money.
- The average Maintenance Loan falls short of living costs by £582 per month.
The Hardship Fund provides essential support for urgent needs, including emergency grants for food, travel costs to university, and even accommodation expenses. Your fundraising will help students focus on their education without the burden of financial stress.

One of the highlights of Giving Day is the Musical Bingo Night taking place in our very own Locos—a fun twist on the classic game that guarantees a night of music, laughter, and great prizes!

Instead of numbers, the bingo cards will feature popular songs! As the DJ spins a mix of classic hits and chart-toppers, you’ll mark off the tunes on your card. Be the first to shout “Bingo!” and win some exciting prizes. Hosted by Andrew Williams, Head of Development and Alumni Relations, and Brunel grad Tia Phillips, this event is open to everyone—whether you’re a bingo regular or a total newbie!
