About Us

Taekwondo is a martial art and Olympic sport that originates in Korea. Everyone is welcome to join the club whether you have no experience or are already progressing through belts.

About Us

Taekwondo is a martial art originating in Korea. It can be traced back many hundreds of years, to its roots in Taek-Kyon, an unarmed self-defence system seen in Korea since around 50BC.

Translated from Korean, "Tae" means to jump, kick or smash with the foot, "Kwon" means fist, to punch or destroy with the hand, and "Do" means art, way or method. Taekwondo uses techniques of unarmed combat for self-defence, involving blocking, evading, punching and kicking using just the hands and feet to rapidly destroy an opponent.

In 2000, Taekwondo became one of only two Asian martial arts in the Olympic games. To the Korean people, Tae Kwon-Do is more than a mere use of skilled movements for the defence of oneself, it is also a way of life and thinking, particularly in instilling a concept of spirit and self-imposed discipline with the idea of moral re-arrangement.

We are a newly formed club with new committee members following in the footsteps of our alumni who closed the club last year, so we are hoping to bring the club back even stronger this time.

Club Aims

Our main aim is to inspire the next generation of taekwondo athletes and share the love of the sport with more people. We want to encourage people of all abilities to participate and have fun while forming lifelong friendships.
