Hi everyone,
My name is Ahmed Rasib and I am a first year undergraduate student in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department. I am standing to be elected as a student assembly member because I would like to ensure that the views of all students from all departments and years are represented. I believe I can have an impartial view to the matters of the student union and as a result improve the compatibility of the student assembly and the union with you – the students.
As your assembly member on the panel of the student assembly, I would aim to ensure that:
1. Every student can make their voice heard and express their opinion on the running of the student assembly, regardless of department, year, or any other factor
2. The students are kept informed of the decisions made by the student assembly
3. Decisions made by the student assembly are to the benefit of everyone studying
in this university.
4. Help in promoting and increasing student employability
5. To spread mental health awareness
6. Promote more union related activities within the societies
7. To organise more community mixed events on campus
8. To bridge the gap between the LBIC students and student union
I am an extremely determined, optimistic, and focused individual, In order to deliver upon these aims and to be a suitable candidate for the post I will use my previous experiences, I was elected as a Deputy Head Boy at my A levels college, moreover, I have served as Secretary General and chaired committees at multiple Model United Nation events at my college which instilled in me the qualities of being an excellent leader and a person who can work with a team. Working collaboratively and leading room filled committees have taught me how to hold my composure during crisis and pressure filled situations. On the other hand, the thing which gives me an edge is that I am a good listener and I find joy in interacting with people from different cultures having diverse mindsets. All of these things I have experienced throughout the years have enhanced my communication skills and confidence.
I would be honoured to represent you all during the coming year and to be given the opportunity to make a positive impact on your university experience.
What are the top 3 issues affecting students? (150 words max)
In my opinion, one of the main issues affecting students in the university is home sickness for freshers from different countries, students have to leave their homes in order to come here and pursue their degree. On the other hand students face issues in using and understanding the platform used for teaching sucy as blackboard and brightspace, third issue in my opinion is lack of awareness to join societies and clubs
