We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Benjamin Zephaniah.
He was a beacon of light on campus for all those who knew him.
Joining Brunel as the Chair of Creative Writing in 2011, his influence will continue through the many lives he has touched. He was well-known as a poet, musician, staff member, and BAFTA winner. To us, however, he will always be remembered as a true advocate for all students on campus, bringing joy to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
To commemorate him further, we have published a poem he made for us back in 2021 to help promote our One Brunel Carnival.
