Massive news from NUS; thanks to the tireless lobbying of the student movement, amendments to the Renters’ Rights Bill have been passed, banning landlords from demanding multiple months’ rent upfront. Housing is one of the biggest expenses for students, so this change will make costs more manageable at the start of a tenancy - so long to landlords asking for outrageous sums upfront!
This proves just how powerful student politics can be. When we spot something unfair, we step up, speak out, and fight to make it right—not just for ourselves, but for future students too.
But the fight isn’t over yet. Next on NUS’s agenda is the No More Guarantors campaign, kicking off with a National Lobby Day at Parliament. Student leaders will come together to push for even bigger changes to housing rights.
We know so many of you are passionate about fairness and have brilliant ideas for change. Let this be your reminder: you can make a difference—whether here at Brunel or on a national scale.
