We’re making changes to how student representation works at Brunel and we want your input.
Representation is basically how students share their views and influence decisions that shape their experience. It’s how we figure out what’s working, what isn’t, and what actually needs to change.
Let’s be honest, most students aren’t involved in representation. And that’s completely normal. You don’t need to be a course rep, a committee member, or 'into politics' to have a view. Your everyday experience as a Brunel student is exactly what matters.
Why is this happening?
At the General Meeting in December, students agreed that:
-
Student Assembly should better reflect the diversity of our community
-
Not every representative role needs to be elected
-
Student Networks should be central to representing their communities
So now we’re reviewing how everything works to make sure representation is:
-
More representative of all students
-
Clear and transparent
-
Actually able to create change
-
Easy to understand and get involved in
What are the focus groups?
These are relaxed, small group conversations. No prep or background knowledge needed.
We want to hear:
-
What would make representation clearer?
-
What would make you more likely to engage?
-
What feels confusing or disconnected right now?
-
What would make it feel useful to you?
If you’ve never taken part in representation before, that’s even better. We really want to understand what’s stopping students from engaging and what would change that.
