Hi everyone, Nafee here, your Student Activities President. 👋 It’s been a busy start to the year, so here’s what I’ve been up to.
🗣️ Giving students a bigger voice
We held the first Student Activities Council meeting, a space for students to shape how clubs and societies run. We’re looking at a proposal for membership criteria across all societies, plus Welfare & Inclusion roles so every society feels welcoming. The membership proposal goes to the next Council meeting. We’re also planning a diversity showcase for Brunel’s 60th birthday.
🎮 Gaming Corner is taking off
Since 13 September, the Gaming Corner has racked up 202 hours of play and £1,010 in sales.
That money helps keep our spaces running, and it’s great to see people making it their hangout. We’ve added new games and decorations, and next up is growing e-sports and more social spaces on campus.
📣 Open Days
We’ve secured £4,500 for 2026-27 through Open Days, which helps support our communities. We had 10 clubs and societies at the last Open Day, and on 10 October we had 20+ groups, all paid.
🏏 Indoor cricket is coming
The sports hall has been upgraded, so indoor cricket is now possible. Trials are done and a 6-team league is in development. Launch details coming soon.
🥐 Greggs on campus?
Yes, I’m still on it, because it can’t be Subway every day! We’re in ongoing talks with Chartwells, and Greggs is now in the discussions too. There are 3 possible locations being explored, and a decision is still to come. Think Greggs on campus is a great idea - tell us here - the more support, the more we can push for it!
🪔 Celebrating culture
I’ve been supporting Indian Soc and Hindu Soc with their Garba and Diwali plans, including food planning and better supplier deals so students get more for their money. Campus feels better when we celebrate each other’s cultures.
♿ Help us make activities more inclusive
Last academic year, the Union ran a survey to understand Disabled Students’ experiences at Brunel, and your feedback helped shape an action plan to improve support, inclusion and representation. Now we want to make sure sports, physical activities, societies and other student activities are accessible and inclusive too. Tell us about your experiences, what you’d be interested in, and anything that would make it easier to get involved. It’s just as helpful to hear if these activities aren’t for you. We still need more responses, so please take a couple of minutes to fill in the Student Activities: Accessibility and Inclusion Survey.
👀 Your move
This is where you come in:
- Inclusion survey: Fill in the Accessibility and Inclusion Survey. It takes a few minutes and directly shapes what we do next.
- Greggs: Tell me where on campus you’d actually want it. The 3 locations are still up in the air, so your vote counts.
- Gaming Corner: Come play, then tell me which games should be added next.
- Indoor cricket: Start thinking about your team. The league is coming and I want it packed.
- Societies: Got thoughts on how clubs and societies should run? Tell me, and it can go straight to the Council.
