I’ve been working across a range of university committees, panels, and decision-making spaces to make sure student voices are properly represented. A lot of this happens behind the scenes, but for me it’s always been about making sure students are genuinely part of the conversations that shape university life.
Senate Meeting
In the Senate meeting, discussions centred around academic quality, teaching standards, and the overall student experience. I presented the Union report, sharing key updates on student feedback and highlighting areas where I felt more attention or improvement is needed. It was a useful opportunity to bring real student experiences into a formal academic space.
Trustee Board Meeting
At Trustee Board, the focus is on broader strategic and financial decisions for the union. Presidents made sure student priorities were reflected in these discussions, especially when it comes to long-term planning and how decisions will impact students on the ground.
Hardship Fund & Fee Remission Panels
I’ve been involved in reviewing student applications for financial support. These are always important discussions, and I’ve made sure each case is looked at fairly and with care, keeping in mind the real situations students are facing.
Immigration Panels
Immigration-related cases for international students are reviewed with both policy and individual circumstances in mind. I’ve focused on making sure decisions are fair, balanced, and sensitive to the complexity of each case while still meeting compliance requirements.
Disability and Neurodiversity Working Group
In the Disability and Neurodiversity Working Group, I’ve been part of ongoing conversations around accessibility and barriers students face. A big focus for me has been on practical changes that can actually improve day-to-day student experience for disabled and neurodivergent students.
Access and Participation Sub-Committee
This work has centred on improving access, experience, and outcomes for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
Elections Committee
I’ve supported the Elections Committee in making sure the election process stays fair, transparent, and accessible. Encouraging strong engagement from students and maintaining trust in the process has been a key focus.
Executive Committee
I’ve also had the responsibility of chairing Executive Committee meetings during this period. This has involved guiding discussions between officers, keeping meetings focused, and making sure priorities are followed through properly so that work doesn’t just get discussed but moves forward.
Upcoming Events
Alongside committee work, I’ve been working on a couple of student-focused events aimed at building community and creating space for students to unwind outside of academic pressures.
A campus water fight is being planned as a light-hearted way for students to enjoy the weather, take a break from studies, and just have some fun on campus together.
I’m also working on a Dialogue Society Dinner, designed to bring students together over food and conversation in a relaxed and welcoming space that encourages connection across different backgrounds.
As always, if there are any issues or ideas students want raised in these spaces, I’m always happy to hear them. Student feedback genuinely shapes the work I do across all of these areas.
