A team of 10 Brunel athletes headed to Wimbledon Common on 15th November for Round 3 of the London Colleges Cross Country League, and the final match before the Christmas break.

In the mens race, a 9.4K race hosted over 2 laps, John Cove was the first home in Brunel colours in a solid 13th place, making him the third different first Brunel athlete in as many races over the season, just holding off the ever-improving fresher Samuel Metcalf in 14th as both finished in 33:59. David Weir finished closely behind in 34:28 for 18th, as Jacob McAdam (43rd, 36:48) and Hasnain Iqbal (74th, 40:35) rounded out Brunels A-team with Oliver Price (128th, 51:36) completed the Brunel finishers.

But there was no stopping Philippa Bowden in the womens 4.7K single-lap race, as the womens team captain repeated her win from last year, and completing a hat trick of victories by finishing 43 seconds ahead of the second fastest female, as Bowden recorded 16:49. Meanwhile, further down the road, Emily McKane returned from a short period of injury and finished a very solid 11th place in 19:16, as Zoe Robson (66th, 24:00) and Nanine Balchin (71st, 24:13) rounded out the women's team and finishers.

All of this means that Philippa Bowden still remains untouchable in the womens standings on a perfect 450 points, a 6-point cushion to Typhaine Christiaen (LSE) in 2nd; and with results being taken out of competitors best 4 runs means Bowden only needs a top 4 finish at either of the next two LCLs to be crowned champion. In the team standing, the women are still 14th overall on 1110 points. On the mens side, Samuel Metcalf is the lead Brunel athlete in the standing on 557 points for 5th position overall!! The men currently hold 4th in the team standings on 2699 points.

A great effort by everyone involved; the penultimate round of the season takes place at the ever iconic Alexandra Palace on 24th January. And provided everyone stays strong, and continues to train hard over the Christmas break, there's still a chance for Brunel to pull something out of the bag comes the season finale.
