With Christmas and the new year behind them, a small group of 8 Brunel athletes headed to Alexandra Palace on 24th January for the first London Colleges Cross Country League of 2018, as well as the penultimate round of the LCL, and the final round before the BUCS Cross Country Championships at Brunel's home turf.
Philippa Bowden showed she hasn't lost any form after the 4 week break, continuing where she left off by dominating the women's 4.6K race with a commanding win of 34 seconds over second place in a time of 17:35, and certifying the women's individual title with 1 round still to go. Brunel's next finisher was Emily McKane, finishing a very solid 13th place in 20:02, with Zoe Robson rounding out the women's team in 42nd with a finishing time of 25:06. The women now lay in 12th position in the team standings with just 1 round left in the season.
Meanwhile, the mens 6.8K race saw Christian O'Brien finish as Brunel's top scorer, securing 28th position in a time of 27:38. Next home was the ever-reliable Jacob McAdam who came round in 40th place in 29:34, with Hasnain Iqbal finishing his ninth consecutive LCL with a 44th place finish in 30:30, with team captain Jono Gilworth (50th, 31:31) & Oliver Price (71st, 35:40) rounding out Brunel's team. The men's team remain 4th in the standings heading into the final round.
A solid run by everyone involved. The fifth and final round will see Brunel invade Wormwood Scrubs on 21st February, but for now it's on to the BUCS Championships which this year sees Brunel hosting the event for the first time in its event history!!
