Weston (3rd Year – Electrical Engineering), Samuel (2nd Year – Computer Science) and Ti (2nd Year – Mathematics) have  been playing American Football for over 2 Years, and are current captains of the Brunel Burners American Football Team. Between them they play at a semi-pro level for the top two teams in the nation (Sam – London Warriors; Ti and Weston – London Blitz).

Recently the three of them were invited to attend trials with the GB American Football Student Programme held on the 19th October at Loughborough University. Out of 255 applicants only 107 were invited to take part in the trial, which was an all day session. After completing their trial, not one, but all three were selected to become members of the GB Student Programme!

The boys will now attend training camps lasting 2 - 4 days, the first of which takes place on the 14th & 15th December,  leading up to the game against Italy in 2014!

Student Union President, Martin Zaranyika said -

‘The Union is extremely proud of the boys for getting onto the GB team. It just shows how all the work they’ve been doing over the summer has really paid off - and we would like to celebrate with them!

I will now be approaching the University to see what support mechanisms can be put in place to allow them to continue down this positive road’

Good luck to the boys for their first training session and watch this space for more updates on their progress!
