We're coming to the end of term here at the Union, and although we're super sad to see you all leaving campus, we thought we'd take the time to showcase what we've achieved over one of our most recent campaigns. Every May, we host 'Mindfulness Month', aimed at giving you students a little break from the madness of exams and deadlines, and encouraging you to take the time to look after yourself. This campaign was lead by our Vice-President for the College of Health and Life Sciences, Maria, and our Vice-President for Student Activities, George.
We kicked off the month by hosting our Relaxation Room, where we transformed a corner of The Venue every day into a little safe haven away from the hustle and bustle outside. It was the most fabulous little space, with beanbags and cushions and even some mindfulness colouring books available to colour out the stress! We also had 'Minfulness Mondays' in Loco's where we kept the place a little bit more quiet than normal for you all to get some chilled revison done.
Of course we hosted some bigger events though, with our Doggy De-Stress day being a roaring success! We had students queing around The Atrium to come and see our wonderful volunteers and doggos from Guide Dogs for the Blind. Following on with our animal theme, we were fortunate enough to have some wonderful weather for our outdoor petting zoo too. We had it all from a Llama to chickens to ducks and a minature horse.
But we didn't just stop there...did you know it's been scientifically proven that doing some little arts and crafts can significantly destress you?! That's why we hosted crafternoon, where we designed inspirational and motivatioal cards for young children suffering from serious illnesesses, all thanks to Post Pals! (If you want to get on this hype too, we totally reccomend checking them out at https://www.postpals.co.uk). We then hosted some 'Make Your Own' sesins where we made some sustainable goodies from lip balm to a lemon sugar body scrub!
We rounded it all off with a summery party on the quad, featuring our favourtie DJ Jon Blower! We relaxed in the sun and listened to some tunes, while our officers handed out some brain boosting vitamins thanks to Floradix.
As you can tell, we've had a pretty busy month (and we've barely even scratched the surface of all the things that went on). But we're super excited to announce that our Stress Management and Sleep Improvement workshops that we hosted will be back in September as part of our new and improved Active@Brunel programme. Keep an eye out for when our new term's activities start, we'll see you there!
