The Union is proud to announce that they have regained the Gold Award in the National Union of Students’ Best Bar None Awards and retained our Silver Green Impact Award.
Continuing on the success from last year and showing the value and importance of responsible alcohol retailing the Union excelled in Best Bar None, achieving Gold status, awarded to only 11 Unions this year. The Union also demonstrated its on-going commitment to environmental sustainability by retaining its Silver status in Green Impact and achieving a higher level of points than those achieved in previous years.
James Ward, the UBS Vice President Community Welfare said: “It is a tremendous honour to have been accredited with these awards. The Union of Brunel Students is delighted that our staff and students alike are actively engaging with the wider issues that impact on our environment, and the safety of our students within our venues.”
UBS President Martin Zaranyika, added: “This award is an absolutely fantastic achievement. A lot of work has been put in by staff to getting here and we must applaud their efforts. For me this award demonstrates and reinforces our commitment to providing a safe and well-rounded experience whenever our members use our bars and/or nightclub.”
Martin and James collected the awards at the National Union of Students Services Convention Annual Dinner, at the Palace Hotel, Manchester, last week [April 16].
More than a hundred participating students’ unions entered the Green Impact scheme in an effort to be recognised as the greenest, and 87 students’ unions entered the Best Bar None safe alcohol retailing accreditation scheme.
