We support Black medical and health-allied students through mentorship, outreach, teaching, wellbeing events, and representation in healthcare. We also welcome non-Black students who want to support!
African Caribbean Medical Society (ACMS) 🩺 is a student-led society at Brunel University dedicated to supporting Black students pursuing medicine and other healthcare-related careers, including physiotherapy, biomedical and life sciences, occupational therapy, and nursing. We are inclusive of non-Black students who want to learn, support, and be part of an inclusive community!
We focus on access, progression, and representation within medical education and the healthcare profession ⚕️
What we do:
Outreach and widening participation work with schools and prospective medical applicants 🏫
Teaching series led by current medical & health-allied students 📚
Events and talks that amplify Black voices in healthcare👩🏿⚕️
Guidance on applying to medical school & health-allied courses from disadvantaged backgrounds
Networking with healthcare professionals 💬
Wellbeing and fun social events 🪩 including spaces to explore Black mental health 🫶
ACMS is open to all students who support our mission and want to be part of a supportive, inclusive community!
