Self-Certifying 


If you have been feeling ill for 7 days or less and were unable to visit a doctor, you may self-certify and sign your certificate confirming you were ill.

Self-certification applies to mental illness as well as physical illness, for example if you experience a short-term deterioration in your mental health and are unable to attend lectures, seminars or an assessment, you can complete a self-certification form.

If you submit ECs evidenced by self-certification more than once in the academic year, you will be asked to meet with your Personal Tutor, who may require you to obtain further evidence, and who will discuss with you the ways in which the University can support you. If there is reason to doubt what you have written in your self-certification, you may be asked to provide further medical evidence.

Brunel’s Counselling


Brunel's Counselling and Mental Wellbeing team is made up of accredited counsellors and mental health advisors.  They are a multicultural team, who have many years of experience working with students from all over the world. Their service is free and confidential*. They offer short term 1-2-1 counselling to help you work on immediate problems, by developing healthy coping techniques, gaining understanding of underlying issues and, if necessary, developing a longer-term treatment plan.

 

 

Student Support & Welfare Team 


Brunel’s Student Support and Welfare team are the portal to accessing the Counselling and Mental Wellbeing service and the Disability and Dyslexia portal. Additionally, they run the university’s wellbeing campaign Well@Brunel.

 


Brunel Out of Hours 


Brunel’s Out of Hour service is open 24/7. It provides free, confidential out of hours counselling and mental wellbeing support to all Brunel Students. To register go to Brunel Landing page and complete your details using your Brunel email address. The organisation code is: BrunelUL
