The primary focus of the campaign is to highlight the environmental movement and conserve the Earth’s natural resources. The campaign will emphasize the importance of sustainability through the 3 Rs (e.g. reduce, reuse, recycle) and how lifestyle changes can reduce the university’s environmental impact. 

 

Campaign/ Activities Updates

 

Generate the Power

Kinetic Energy Demonstration - Students see how long they can keep an item powered up for using a bicycle and kinetic energy

  • Students will understand how much energy is needed to power electronic and hopefully reduce their output
  • Held outside Hamilton Centre

 

Planet Over Plastics

Commercial Discount - Discounted price on water bottles, reusable cups, and union-branded metal straws

  • Digital map of where to locate water fountains.
  • Expansion of Reusable Products - The introduction of reusable Brunel shopping bags (similar to those sold in the supermarket) and metal straws.

 

Clothes Swap

Clothes Swap & Donation – students will bring no longer needed/ older clothes clothes to be swapped.

  • Held in ‘The Venue’ during the afternoon.
  • Any un-swapped clothes will be donated to local homeless or women’s shelters (i.e. within the local Hillingdon area to minimise the carbon lifecycle of the products)

 

People on the Planet

Campaign Videos Recorded – featuring a sustainability consultant (former alumni) whose degree was on Brunel’s water footprint

  • Including footage of people refilling water bottles, and recycling plastics, highlighting how simple lifestyle adjustments are beneficial to both the people and the planet
  • Earth Week Campaign – information on how to reduce plastic consumption
  • Signposting to retailers that product clothes less damaging to the environment
