Motion to approve Katie Ross as an External Trustee

Following a recruitment process to fill the 2 vacant posts on the Trustee Board, the Appointments committee are recommending the appointment of Katie Ross as an External Trustee for the Union of Brunel Students.

The Union Belives:

Katie Is a former Officer and Trustee of Bedfordshire Students Union so has a solid understanding and working knowledge of Union Trusteeship, particularly as she was active around the time of their Union registering as an independent charity and fully embracing the new roles of external Trustee on Union Boards.  Her career outside of Unions has been totally focussed within the higher education sector, having working in University Public affairs and for the Umbrella organisation Universities UK as a senior Events manager.  She now works for the Higher Education think tank WONKHE.

Katie has incredible knowledge of the wider Higher Education landscape, and her inclusion on the Board will enable us to look at things with a wider perspective and how they may or may not affect the University and therefore our members.   Her vast experience in event management will also be a fantastic resource for our staff and officer to draw upon , as events planning and delivery are in essence one of the main activities of any union and anything we can do to broaden our knowledge and continually improve will be incredibly valuable to us.

Katie will be an amazing addition to our Board, helping us look at factors far outside Brunel borders and with a shrinking NUS her insight and support may prove invaluable in the coming months and years.

The Appointments committee wholeheartedly supports Katie’s application to become an external Union Trustee and recommends her appointment to Student Assembly
