Publishing late timetables and last-minute timetable changes must stop!

Timetabling changes have caused me a lot issues, not only was my timetable released last minute, but it has also changed several times since it was published. This has made it incredibly difficult as I have 2 jobs and have had to change my availability to work to accommodate my classes – jobs I need to survive, and my employers are not happy. The University need a proper policy in place to protect students from this stress: 1) Timetables should be finalised weeks if not months in advance. 2) Last minute changes to days and times should only happen in exceptional circumstances; it should not be the norm. Is it a lot to ask that I should know when I am expected into university for classes well in advance? I commute to campus and this disorganisation has caused me a huge stress, I don’t think I am asking a lot. Have you had similar issues? Please add a comment with your experience so the University can see that something MUST change.

9:12am on 12 Oct 26 I completely agree with this very sensible suggestion; and I would suggest this is expanded to include all events, not just timetabled lectures... as a PGR I have experienced far too often training/events/talks being cancelled/date changed last minute. Further, trainings and other sessions are poorly promoted or publicised (even Student Union meetings, such as the recent PGR meeting on 23-September!) so that it is hard to plan when you have work, caring or commuting challenges (or all three in my case!). Very often I have been unable to attend things as there was simply not enough notice to arrange care/amend work. In my opinion, there is no excuse or reason not to advise students as soon as possible about planned events - regardless of what academic level they are. Why are we not advised in a timely manner of events/trainings/lectures? Many are known well in advance but there seems to be delays in sharing and communicating these.
