Referendum Rules
The Referendum Rules explain how the 2026 Referendum will operate, including who can vote, how campaigning works, and how complaints and results are handled.

Who can vote?
Only full members of the Union of Brunel Students at the time of voting are eligible to vote in the referendum.
Who oversees the referendum?
The referendum is overseen by the Democracy Committee and the Returning Officer. Their role is to ensure the referendum is conducted fairly, transparently and in accordance with Union regulations.
Campaigning
Students may campaign for either outcome of the referendum. Campaigners must follow the Referendum Rules, Union policies, University regulations and relevant legislation.
Campaign teams must register before campaigning begins and comply with the campaign regulations throughout the voting period.
Complaints
If you have concerns about the conduct of a campaign or the referendum process, complaints should be submitted in writing before the relevant deadline outlined in the Referendum Rules.

Results
The Returning Officer is responsible for verifying and declaring the result of the referendum. Any appeals must follow the process set out in the Referendum Rules.
