Richard 'REMZ' Iyede
Welfare & Inclusion President
Hi, I’m Richard Ogheneruemurode Iyede, though many students know me as Remz. As your Welfare & Inclusion President, I want Brunel to be a place where every student feels safe, respected, supported and able to thrive. My role is to turn student concerns, experiences and ideas into practical action.
I will hold regular student clinics and open office hours where you can raise welfare, housing, financial, accessibility, safety or academic concerns. They will also be a space to give honest feedback on my projects, suggest new priorities and explore how we can work together. You do not need a formal complaint or a fully developed proposal. A good idea or different perspective can be the start of meaningful change.
My work will focus on protecting students, strengthening student voice, supporting personal development, and building a more connected Brunel community. This includes housing and rent, the cost of living, mental health, accessibility, safeguarding, student safety and stronger student involvement in university decisions. I will also provide regular updates so students can see what is progressing, what is delayed and what still needs action.
One of my main projects is Brunel Humanitas, a proposed whole-person development programme. Students could debate real ethical dilemmas, learn financial and communication skills, explore responsible AI, build healthier routines, develop business or social-impact ideas, take part in community projects and visit places such as Parliament, museums, faith spaces or environmental sites. The programme could end with a Humanitas Festival where students share what they have learned and created. Its purpose is to help students think critically, act responsibly and leave Brunel better prepared for work, life and service.
I also want to strengthen belonging through interfaith dialogue, cultural collaboration and volunteering with the wider Hillingdon community. This presidency cannot be built around one person, so I encourage you to attend a clinic, share your ideas, join a project, challenge me and help shape what comes next. Together, we can build systems, opportunities and traditions that last beyond one year.
With Industry. With Courage. With Love.
