How to Pay Fines and Who’s Responsible
During your time in a club, you may have to deal with fines. These can come from BUCS, LUSL, external competitions, or the Union. Here’s a breakdown of the main types of fines and who is responsible for paying them.
1. BUCS Related Fines
Walkover – Forfeited Matches

Voluntary walkover: When the team, club, or Union could have taken reasonable steps to avoid the forfeit

Involuntary walkover: When the forfeit was caused by something outside the team’s reasonable control (as judged by BUCS)
Sanctions (from BUCS to your team) for Conceding Walkovers:

Team Sheet Fines

At the end of the season, BUCS review all team sheets

If a team has completed less than 60% of their league team sheets, they will get a £100 fine per team

Teams are responsible for paying this fine

If unpaid by the end of September the following academic year, the team will be removed from the league
No Show (Individual Events)

Many events allow withdrawals without a fine if done before the deadline stated in the event information

Late withdrawals or no-shows usually result in a fine

Withdrawal requests must follow the event’s procedures

If a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) is issued:

The driver will be emailed and will be responsible for paying the full amount directly.

A £25 admin fee will also be added as a payment option on the club’s Union page

Payment can be made online or at the Union Reception

If unpaid, the club will lose access to hiring a Union minibus until the fine is cleared
