How to Run a Taster Session/Meet and Greet

  • Taster sessions and meet & greets are essential for attracting new members, particularly during Freshers Week and Week 1. They provide a chance for students to experience what your club or society offers without needing to commit immediately.

  • Purpose of a Taster/Meet & Greet
    • To introduce students to your club or society’s regular activities.
    • To create a welcoming and inclusive first impression.
    • To encourage sign-ups from both new and returning students.
    • To help potential members explore new interests or hobbies.

  • Key Guidelines
    • Open Access: All taster sessions and meet & greets must be open to all students.
    • Do not label them as trials or selection sessions.
      • If someone isn’t suited for competitive teams, suggest development squads, socials, or other ways to stay involved—don’t turn anyone away.
    • Inclusivity First: You are representing your club and the Union—make every effort to be welcoming, especially to students who may be new, anxious, or from underrepresented groups.

  • Promotion
    • Your session will be included in the Freshers Guide published by the Union.
    • You are encouraged to:
      • Promote the event on your club/society’s social media channels.
      • Update your Brunel Students webpage with details.
      • Use posters, WhatsApp chats, and presence at the Freshers Fair to drive attendance.

  • How to Book a Taster Session
    • All information should be included in the Club Forms submitted in June
    • Include the date, time, and facility request for your taster in the Club Information Forms submitted in June.
    • Brunel Sport will book the facility and confirm with you prior to Freshers Week.
    • If there are any issues with the booking, the Sports Development Coordinator will get in touch.

  • How to Book a Freshers Activity
    • Use the “Freshers Week - Club/Society Activity Booking Form” to request space.
    • This form is more suitable for fun, informal sessions or engagement events beyond traditional tasters (e.g., mini-games, quizzes, giveaways).
    • You can use these sessions as fun promotional tools alongside your formal taster.

  • Meet & Greets
    • Book a space through the Societies Coordinator or the Activities Booking Form.
    • Think beyond just talking—consider adding light activities like:
      • Icebreakers
      • Q&A sessions
      • Snacks and music
      • Introductions to committee members and upcoming events
