How to resign or carry out a vote of no confidence?

  • Resigning from a Committee Position

    • You are fully within your rights to step down from a committee role at any time.

    • To resign, you must notify either the Sports Development Coordinator (for clubs) or Societies Coordinator (for societies).
    • Include the name of the club/society and your committee role in your message.
    • Once informed, they will:
      • Remove your name from the committee details spreadsheet
      • Remove the committee role membership from your student account

  • Vote of No Confidence (VONC)
    • What is it?
      • A formal process to remove an elected committee member who is not fulfilling their duties due to absence, poor performance, or lack of engagement.
    • Valid Reasons for a VONC
      • Repeatedly refusing to attend meetings
      • Failure to carry out duties/responsibilities
      • Lack of attendance at events, meetings, or campaigns
    • Starting the Process
      • Any society member can initiate a VONC
      • The procedure is detailed in your Society Constitution
      • To start, contact the Societies Coordinator, who will act as the Returning Officer to ensure the process is fair
    • Mediation First
      • Mediation is encouraged before initiating a VONC
      • If the conflict is personal rather than procedural, a disciplinary panel may be more appropriate
    • Voting Eligibility
      • Only members who joined the society at least four weeks prior to the notice of no confidence can vote
      • This rule prevents last-minute sign-ups intended to sway the vote
    • After a VONC
      • If a committee member is removed, they still remain a member of the society
      • An election will be held to fill the vacant position

The removed individual is eligible to run again in that or any future election
